Dental Regulations (Amendment)
under the
Dental Act

Under the authority of section 20 of the Dental Act, the Newfoundland Dental Board, with the approval of the Minister of Health and Community Services, makes the following regulations.

        1. (1) Paragraph 14(ee) of the Dental Regulations is repealed and the following substituted:

           (ee)  using, in respect of the practice of dentistry by practitioners who are not practising as an employee of or on behalf of a professional dental corporation,

                      (i)  the designation "clinic" or "dental centre" or another designation indicative of the practice of dentistry by a group, except where the board has given its prior written approval to the name of the "clinic" or "dental centre" and which lists in equal display the surnames, or the surnames and a combination of the given names or initials and professional designation, of all practitioners participating in the "clinic" or "dental centre",

                     (ii)  a designation or name that, in the opinion of the board, is inaccurate or misleading,

                    (iii)  a designation or name that expresses or implies superiority of qualifications, experience or education over that of other practitioners,

                    (iv)  a designation or name that, in the opinion of the board, is the same as, or similar to the name of another dental centre or clinic so that the use of the name would be likely to confuse or mislead,

                     (v)  a designation or name that would tend to bring the dental profession into disrepute or otherwise is objectionable in light of professional standards of practice and ethics, or

                    (vi)  a designation or name that is not consistent with the guidelines governing designations and names to be used in respect of the practice of dentistry established by the board;

             (2)  Section 14 of the regulations is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (ee) the following:

        (ee.1)  using, in respect of the practice of dentistry by professional dental corporations, a designation or name that is not approved by the board or is not consistent with the Professional Dental Corporation Regulations;
