Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador (Amendment)
under the
Wild Life Regulations
and the
Wild Life Act

Under the authority of sections 25, 27, 88 and 114 of the Wild Life Regulations and the Wild Life Act, I make the following Order.

        1. Paragraph 3(3)(d) of the Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador is repealed and the following substituted:

             (d)  the Beothuk Lake Area,

 

        2. Subsection 4(1) of the Order is repealed and the following substituted:

Neck snares

        4. (1) Killing neck snares which are set on land for the purpose of taking fur bearing animals shall

             (a)  be equipped with a noose locking device which shall be set in a manner so that the noose, once closed, is prevented from expanding; and

             (b)  on the island of Newfoundland, include a breakaway device to cause the snare loop to disassemble when static force of 340 kilograms or less is applied.  

 

        3. Section 7 of the Order is amended by renumbering it as subsection 7(1) and adding immediately after subsection (1) the following:

             (2)  On the island of Newfoundland, a person who sets a live restraining snare on land shall include a breakaway device to cause the snare loop to disassemble when static force of 340 kilograms or less of is applied.

 

        4. Paragraph (f) of Schedule A of the Order is amended by deleting the words "Red Indian Lake" wherever they appear and substituting the words "Beothuk Lake".

 

        5. Schedule D of the Order is amended by deleting the row starting with the words "Fox, Coyote or Lynx Restraining Neck Snare" and substituting the following:

Fox, Coyote or Lynx Restraining Neck Snare

- Wire shall be 3/32 " or greater
- 360
° swivel required at the attachment point
- The stop on the snare loop shall be fastened so that the loop will close to a minimum 8" circumference.
- The snare shall be fastened to an immovable object with no drags.
- The snare may be set with or without the use of bait.
- On the island of Newfoundland, the restraining neck snare shall include a breakaway device to cause the snare loop to disassemble when 340 kilograms or less of static force is applied.

 

        6. Schedule E of the Order is amended by deleting the words "Red Indian Lake" and substituting the words "Beothuk Lake".
