The Committees of the House
Forty-Fourth General Assembly - Fourth Session - 2002
The Standing Orders of the House provide for the appointment of a 5 member committee, on the motion of the Leader of the House or another Government member, known as the Striking Committee, whose role it is to prepare lists of Members to compose several Standing Committees of the House.
The Standing Committees appointed for the 44th General Assembly are
- the Public Accounts Committee,
- the Government Services Committee,
- the Resource Committee, and
- the Social Services Committee.
The Standing Orders also provide for the appointment of Select Committees. During the 44th General Assembly, the House of Assembly appointed the Select Committee to Inquire into Bill 9: entitled "An Act to Provide for the Recovery of Tobacco Related Health Care Costs" in April 2001.
