Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods Notice
under the
Executive Council Act

Under the authority of section 5 of the Executive Council Act, the Clerk of the Executive Council gives the following Notice.

Short title

        1. This Notice may be cited as the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods Notice.

Definitions

        2. In this Notice

             (a)  "department" means the Department of Forest Resources and Agrifoods; and

             (b)  "minister" means the Minister of Forest Resources and Agrifoods.

Department created

        3. (1) The department is created by Order in Council 96‑308 and is presided over by the minister.

             (2)  The department has 2 divisions, as follows:

             (a)  Forestry, Wild Life and Inland Fisheries; and

             (b)  Food and Agriculture.

Powers and duties of the minister

        4. The powers, functions and duties of the minister include the supervision, control and direction of all matters relating to

             (a)  forest resources and the utilization, protection, conservation, management, surveying, mapping and development of forest resources, including silviculture;

             (b)  management, preservation, protection and development of wild life;

             (c)  inland fisheries;

             (d)  agriculture in all its branches and in its widest sense, including, without limitation of the word "agriculture", agrifoods, agronomy, horticulture, animal husbandry, aviculture, the development of pasturage and the growing of hay and the products of agriculture, including, without limitation of the word "products", animals, meats, eggs, poultry, wool, dairy products, berries, grains, seeds, fruit, including wild fruit, fruit products, vegetables and vegetable products;

             (e)  animal health;

              (f)  food technology and marketing;

             (g)  agricultural land and the utilization, protection, conservation, management, surveying, mapping and development of agricultural land;

             (h)  in cooperation with the Minister of Mines and Energy, the use of support services from the Department of Mines and Energy; and

              (i)  the administration of the Acts set out in the Schedule and of all orders and regulations passed or made under those Acts, including those powers, functions or duties necessary or desirable for carrying out the purpose of those Acts,

which are not, or in so far as they are not, the responsibility of another minister, agency, body, corporation, board, organization or person.
