Social Assistance Regulations (Amendment)
under the
Social Assistance Act
(O.C. 98-492)

Under the authority of section 30 of the Social Assistance Act, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following regulations.

        1. (1) Subparagraph 2(e)(ii) of the Social Assistance Regulations is amended by deleting the words "federal child benefit" and substituting the words "Canada Child Tax Benefit".

             (2)  Subparagraph 2(i)(iii) of the regulations is repealed and the following substituted:

                    (iii)  in the case of 2 persons living together who have no dependent children and who have been granted social assistance for a reason other than unemployment, 50% of all allowable income over $30 and 100% of all allowable income over $200 a month,

             (3)  Subparagraph 2(i)(v) of the regulations is repealed and the following substituted:

                     (v)  in the case of 2 persons living together who have no dependent children and whose only claim to social assistance is unemployment, 50% of all allowable income up to $200 a month and 100% of all allowable income over $200 a month,

             (4)  Paragraph 2(i) of the regulations is amended by deleting the semi colon at the end of subparagraph (xiv) and substituting a comma and by adding immediately after that subparagraph the following:

                   (xv)  in the case of a family with dependent children who are included in the social assistance amount granted to that family, regardless of the reason for assistance, all allowable income over $150 a month; and

        2. (1) Paragraph 6(1)(a) of the regulations is repealed and the following substituted:

             (a)  for food, clothing and personal care, fuel, household maintenance and utilities

             (2)  Paragraph 6(1)(c) of the regulations is amended

             (a)  at subparagraph (i), by deleting the number "372" and substituting the number "379"; and

             (b)  at subparagraph (ii), by deleting the number "163" and substituting the number "166".

             (3)  Paragraph 6(1)(d) of the regulations is amended

             (a)  at subparagraph (i), by deleting the number "236" and substituting the number "241"; and

             (b)  at subparagraph (ii), by deleting the number "80" and substituting the number "82".

             (4)  Paragraph 6(1)(j) of the regulations is amended by deleting the number "717" and substituting the number "731".

             (5)  Subsection 6(1) of the regulations is amended by deleting the word "and" at the end of paragraph (o), by deleting the period and substituting a semi colon and the word "and" at the end of paragraph (p) and by adding immediately after paragraph (p) the following:

             (q)  an amount of $150 a month for a family with dependent children who reside in a coastal Labrador community.

        3. Paragraph 12(2)(c) of the regulations is amended by adding the word "not" immediately after the word "are".

Commencement

        4. (1) Section 1 is considered to have come into force on June 1, 1998.

             (2)  Section 2 is considered to have come into force on May 1, 1998.

             (3)  Section 3 is considered to have come into force on August 2, 1996.
