Little Grand Lake Provisional Ecological Reserve Regulations
under the
Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act

Under the authority of section 25 of the Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following regulations.

Short title

        1. These regulations may be cited as the Little Grand Lake Provisional Ecological Reserve Regulations.

Definitions

        2. In these regulations

             (a)  "managing agency" means the Parks and Natural Areas Division of the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation;

             (b)  "motorized boat" means a watercraft equipped with a mechanical means of propulsion and excludes a personal watercraft;

             (c)  "Newfoundland Marten" means the Newfoundland population of the Martes americana atrata;

             (d)  "personal watercraft" means a jet-ski, sea-doo, wave-runner and similar motorized watercraft; and

             (e)  "reserve" means the Little Grand Lake Provisional Ecological Reserve.

Scientific research

        3. (1) Scientific research within the reserve shall require a permit and those permits may be obtained from the managing agency on submission of a written request fully outlining and detailing the research project.

             (2)  Scientific research permits issued under subsection (1) may be subject to the terms and conditions the managing agency may determine.

Permitted activities

        4. Notwithstanding the prohibitions in section 24 of the Wilderness and Ecological Reserves Act, a person may do the following within the reserve:

             (a)  fish;

             (b)  hunt or net an animal other than the Newfoundland Marten;

             (c)  use a motorized boat or snowmobile but not a personal watercraft; and

             (d)  land aircraft.
