Labour Standards Regulations (Amendment)

Labour Standards Act

Under the authority of section 26 of the Labour Standards Act, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following regulations.

        1. The Labour Standards Regulations are amended by repealing section 8 and substituting the following:

Minimum wage

        8. (1) Effective October 1, 2007, every employer shall pay to every employee a wage rate of not less than $7.50 per hour.

             (2)  Effective April 1, 2008, every employer shall pay to every employee a wage rate of not less than $8.00 per hour.

 

        2. (1) The regulations are amended by repealing subsections 9(1), (2), (3) and (4) and by adding immediately before subsection (5) the following:

          (4.1)  Effective October 1, 2007 for the purpose of section 25 of the Act, overtime wages shall be paid at a rate of not less than $11.25 an hour.

          (4.2)  Effective April 1, 2008, for the purpose of section 25 of the Act, overtime wages shall be paid at a rate of not less than $12.00 an hour.

             (2)  Subsection 9(5) of the regulations is amended by deleting the word and numerals "(1), (2), (3) and (4)" and by substituting the word and numerals "(4.1) and (4.2)".

        3. These regulations come into effect on October 1, 2007.
