Open Season Big Game Moose Hunting Order,
Labrador, 2010-2011

under the
Wild Life Regulations
and the
Wild Life Act

Under the authority of sections 38 and 114 of the Wild Life Regulations and the Wild Life Act, I make the following Order.

Schedule


Short title

        1. This Order may be cited as the Open Season Big Game Moose Hunting Order, Labrador, 2010-2011.

Prohibition

        2. The taking of moose is prohibited throughout Labrador, except as provided for in this Order.

Moose management areas

        3. The moose management areas are as described in the Schedule.

Open Season

        4. The open season for moose hunting in all moose hunting areas shall be September 11, 2010 - March 13, 2011.

Bag limit

        5. The bag limit shall be one moose per licence.

Prohibition

        6. A person shall not transport or possess any firearms under the authority of a valid game licence without being in possession of an outdoor identification card, or non-resident equivalent card, issued to that person.

Sunday hunting

        7. Hunting with a firearm on Sundays shall be permitted across the entire province, beginning October 3, 2010 and ending April 30, 2011 for the species and during the seasons as described in this Order.

Repeal

        8. The Open Season Big Game Moose Hunting Order, Labrador, 2009-2010, Newfoundland and Labrador Regulation 95/09, is repealed.


Schedule

             (a)  Area 48 - Wabush

All that area encompassed by a line commencing at the intersection of the Quebec-Labrador border and 53° 20' 15.9” north latitude;

Then moving due east to the western extremity of Lac Boujonnier;

Then following the southern shoreline of said lake in a south easterly direction to a unnamed river located at 53° 19' 41.9” north latitude and  66° 56' 46.1” west longitude;

Then following said river in a south easterly direction to Bruce Lake;

Then following the southern shoreline of Bruce Lake to a point on its south-eastern extremity located at 53° 16' 40.7” north latitude and  66° 47' 53.6”  west longitude;

Then following a straight line in an easterly direction to a point at the western extremity of an unnamed lake located at 53° 16' 45.9” north latitude and 66° 47' 13.1” west longitude;

Then following the southern shorelines of a series of unnamed lakes and unnamed rivers in an easterly direction to Pegrum Lake;

Then following the southern shorelines Pegrum Lake, Nault Lake, Steers Lake, and the southern banks of the unnamed rivers interconnecting these lakes in an easterly direction to the north western shore of Shabogamo Lake;

Then following the western shoreline of Shabogamo Lake to its intersection with 53° 18' 30” north latitude;

Then travelling due east to the Labrador Railway at Shabo;

Then following the Labrador Railway in a generally southerly direction to Ross Bay Junction;

Then following the Quebec North Shore-Labrador Railway in a generally westerly direction to the east shore of Lac Emerillion;

Then following the eastern shoreline of Lac Emerillion to its south southern extremity;

Then following a straight line due south to 66° 22' 33.5” west longitude on the Labrador-Quebec border;

Then following the said border in generally westerly and northerly direction to the point of commencement.

 

             (b)  Area 49 - Lower Mecatina

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at52° 30' north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line due east to a point located at 52° 30' north latitude and 59° 50' west longitude;

Then following a straight line due south to a point located at 52° 00' north latitude and 59° 50' west longitude;

Then following a straight line due west along the Labrador-Quebec boundary to a point located at 52° 00' north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line due north to the point of commencement.

 

             (c)  Area 50 - Natashquan

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at 52° 30' north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line due south to a point located at 52° 00' north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following the Labrador-Quebec boundary in a westerly direction to a point located on the east bank of the Romaine River at 52° 00' north latitude;

Then following the east bank of the Romaine River in a north westerly direction to 52° 30' north latitude;

Then following a straight line due east to the point of commencement.

             (d)  Area 51 - Grand Falls

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the west bank of the Metchin River where said river intersects the Churchill Road;

Then following the west bank of the Metchin River in a generally northerly direction to its intersection with an unnamed lake at 53° 32' 41.7” north latitude and 63° 10' 41.5” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a westerly direction to the summit of Lookout Mountain;

Then following a straight line in a north-westerly direction to the summit of an unnamed hill, elevation 549 metres, at 53° 40' 10.3” north latitude and 64° 28' 53.5” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a south-westerly direction to the intersection of Route 500 and Esker Road;

Then following Route 500 to the point where the transmission lines cross Route 500, west of the Ossokmanuan bridge;

Then following a straight line in a south-westerly direction to the summit of an unnamed hill, elevation 665 metres, at 53° 23' 14.9” north latitude and 65° 06' 35.5” west longitude;

 

Then following a straight line in a south-easterly direction to the intersection of the 735 transmission line and the west bank of Atikonak River;

Then following a straight line in a north-easterly direction to the summit of an unnamed hill, elevation 635 metres, at 53° 14' 28.4” north latitude and 64° 04' 13.9” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in an easterly direction to 53° 11' 15.3” north latitude and 63° 21' 57” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a northerly direction to the west bank at the mouth of the Metchin River;

Then following the west bank of the Metchin River in a generally northerly direction to the point of commencement.

             (e)  Area 52 - Grand River

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at a point located at 53° 10' north latitude and 63° 00' west longitude;

Then following 63° 00' west longitude due south to its intersection with 53° 00' north latitude;

Then following a straight line in an easterly-south-easterly direction to the west bank of the Minipi River at 52° 45' 49.9” north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following 61° 30' west longitude due north to its intersection with the north bank of the Churchill River;

Then following the north bank of the Churchill river to the west bank at the mouth of the Pinus River;

Then following the west bank of the Pinus River to its intersection with 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following 61° 30' west longitude due north to its intersection with the south bank of the Goose River;

Then following a straight line in a generally westerly direction to the intersection of the Metchin River with an unnamed lake at 53° 32' 41.7” north latitude and 63° 10' 41.5” west longitude;

Then following the west bank of the Metchin River in a generally southerly direction to its outflow into the Churchill River;

Then following a straight line in a southerly direction to 53°11' 15.3” north latitude and 63° 21' 57” west longitude; 

Then following a straight line in an easterly direction to the point of commencement.

 

              (f)  Area 53 - Muskrat Falls

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the south bank of the Goose River at 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a north-easterly direction to the peak at Cape Law, 373metres;

Then following a straight line in a south-easterly direction to the peak at Cape Caribou, 440metres;

Then following a straight line in a south-easterly direction to its intersection with North West River Road located at 53° 31.55' north latitude and 60° 12.05' west longitude;

Then following North West River Road in a north-easterly direction to the North West River Bridge at the crossing between Little Lake and North West Bight;

Then following the south eastern shoreline of Northwest Bight to Sandy Point;

Then following a straight line in a south-westerly direction to the northern extremity of the Churchill (Grand) river outlet into Goose Bay;

Then following the north shore of the Churchill River in a south-westerly direction to its confluence with the Pinus River;

Then following the northern bank of the Pinus River  in a westerly direction to its intersection with 61° 30' west longitude; 

Then following 61° 30' west longitude due north to the point of commencement.

 

             (g)  Area 53A - Muskrat Falls

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the north bank of the Churchill River and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following the north bank of the Churchill (Grand) River in a generally north easterly direction to the northern extremity of Churchill River outlet into Lake Melville;

Then following a straight line in a north easterly direction to Sandy Point;

Then following the western shoreline of Lake Melville in a northerly direction to North West Point;

Then following a straight line in a generally easterly direction to McLean Point;

Then following the south western shoreline of Carter Basin in a generally south easterly direction to the mouth of the Kenemich River;

Then following the west bank of the Kenemich River in a southerly direction to a point located at 53°  14'  north latitude and 59° 50'  west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a southerly direction to 53° 10' north latitude, 59° 50' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a south-westerly direction to the confluence of the Kenamu River and a river known locally as South Branch River;

Then following a straight line in a south-westerly direction to a point located at 52° 46' north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line due north to the point of commencement.

             (h)  Area 54 - Grand Lake

All that area of Labrador commencing at the south bank of the Goose River and its intersection with 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following 61° 30' west longitude due north to the edge of the north bank of a unnamed river flowing into the Wapustan River;

Then following the Wapustan river to its confluence with the Naskaupi River;

Then following a straight line in a easterly direction to the confluence of Nipishish Lake and Crooked River;

Then following a straight line in a south easterly direction to the position 53° 45' north latitude and 60° 15' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a south easterly direction to the summit of Sunday Hill near the town of North West River;

Then following a straight line in a southerly direction to the north abutment of North West River bridge;

Then following the North West River Road in a generally westerly direction to a point located at 53° 31' 20.6” north latitude and 60° 13' 6.1” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a north westerly direction to the peak of Cape Caribou 441metres;

Then following a straight line in a north westerly direction to the peak of Cape Law 373metres;

Then following a straight line in a south westerly direction to the point of commencement. All offshore islands excluded.

 

              (i)  Area 55 - Double Mer

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the north abutment of the North West River Bridge;

Then following the shore line of Hamilton Inlet (Lake Melville) in a generally north-easterly direction to the confluence of Groswater Bay and the south-eastern bank of Tom Luscombe Brook;

Then following a straight line in a generally south-westerly direction to the southeast corner of Nipishish Lake where it flows into Crooked River located  at 54° 6' 15.99” north latitude and 60° 49' 12.3” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a south-easterly direction to a point located  53° 45' north latitude and 60° 15' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a south-easterly direction to the summit of Sunday Hill near the town of North West River;

Then following a straight line in a southerly direction to the point of commencement. All offshore islands excluded.

              (j)  Area 56 - Kaipokok

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the southeast corner of Nipishish Lake where said lake flows into the Crooked River;

Then following a straight line in a north-westerly direction to a point on the Kaipokok Lake (Warrens Lake) at 54° 30' north latitude and 61° 00' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a north-easterly direction to a point on the south bank of the Kanoiriktok River located at 54° 49' 24.3" north latitude and 60° 30' 1.88” west longitude;

Then proceeding in a straight line in a north easterly direction to the 450 meter summit of Post Hill at 54° 53' 38.5" north latitude and 59° 44' 49.4” west longitude;

Then following 59° 44' 49.4” west longitude due south to 54° 12' 41.9" north latitude;

Then following a straight line in a generally south-westerly direction to the point of commencement. All offshore islands excluded.

             (k)  Area 57 - Paradise River

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at a point 52° 45' north latitude and 58° 00' west longitude;

Then following 58° 00' west longitude due north to the intersection with 54° 00' north latitude;

Then following 54° 00' north latitude due east to its intersection with the Labrador Coast;

Then following the Labrador Coast in a generally southerly direction to a point on the north shore of Caplin Bay located at 53° 07' 20” north latitude and 55° 56' 09.4” west longitude;

Then following 53° 07' 20" north latitude due west to 57° 00' west longitude;

Then follow a straight line in a south-westerly direction to the point of commencement.

 

              (l)  Area 58 - Alexis River

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at 52° 45' north latitude and 58° 00' west longitude;

Then following 58° 00' west longitude due south to the Labrador-Quebec border at 52° 00' north latitude;

Then following the 52° 00' north latitude due east to the Labrador coast;

Then following the Labrador coastline in a generally northerly direction to the north shore of Caplin Bay located at 53° 07' 20” north latitude and 55° 56' 09.4” west longitude;

Then following 53° 07' 20” north latitude due west to 57° 00' west longitude;

Then following a straight line to in a south westerly direction to the point of commencement.

            (m)  Area 59 - Upper Kenamu

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at 53° 10' north latitude and 59° 50' west longitude;

Then following 59° 50' west longitude due south to 52° 30' north latitude;

Then following 52° 30' north latitude due west to 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following 61° 30' west longitude due north to the west bank of the Minipi River at 52° 45' 49.9” north latitude and 61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in north easterly direction to the confluence of the Kenamu River and the South Branch River;

Then following a straight line in a north-easterly direction to the point of commencement.

             (n)  Area 60 - Upper Mecatina

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the edge of the west bank of the Minipi River at 52° 45' 49.9” north latitude and  61° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a north westerly direction to 53° 00' north latitude and 63° 00' west longitude;

Then following 63° 00' west longitude due north to 53° 10' north latitude;

Then following a straight line in a generally north westerly direction to the summit of an unnamed hill, elevation 635 metres, at 53° 14' 28.4” north latitude and 64° 04' 13.9” west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a south easterly direction to the shoreline at the north-eastern extremity of an unnamed lake (at the source of the Romaine River) located at 52° 52' 33.5" north latitude and 63° 36' 20.6" west longitude;

Then following the south-eastern shoreline of the said unnamed pond to the Romaine River;

Then following the east bank of the Romaine River in a southerly direction to 52° 30' north latitude;

Then following 52° 30' north latitude due east to 61° 30' west longitude; then following 61° 30' west longitude due north to the point of commencement.

             (o)  Area 85 - Snegamook

All that area of Labrador bounded by a line commencing at the outflow of Nipishish Lake at Crooked River;

Then following a straight line in a north-westerly direction to the point at 54° 30' north latitude and 61° 00' west longitude on Kaipokok Lake (Warrens Lake);

Then following a straight line in a northerly direction to 54° 41' north latitude, 61° 00' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a westerly direction to the unnamed river flowing into Mistinippi Lake at 54° 41' 31.7” north latitude and 61° 17' 36” west longitude;

Then following said river in a generally westerly direction on its south bank to the western extremity of the unnamed lake at 54° 44' 1.53” north latitude and 61° 46' 08” west lingitude;

Then following a straight line in a north-westerly direction to the southern extremity of the unnamed lake at 54° 47' 27.14 north latitude and 61° 48' 27.9” west longitude;

Then proceeding in a generally northerly direction along the western shore of the aforementioned lake to a unnamed river at its northern extent;

Then proceeding in a generally northerly direction along said unnamed river to an unnamed pond, then following the southern shoreline of this unnamed pond to a unnamed river at its western extent;

Then following this unnamed river in westerly direction to another unnamed pond;

Then following then southern shoreline of this unnamed pond to a unnamed river at its western extent;

Then following this unnamed river in westerly direction to another unnamed pond;

Then following the eastern shoreline of this unnamed pond to a river at its southern extent;

Then following the river in a southerly direction to a point  located at  54° 45' 55.3” north latitude and 62° 00' west lingitude;

Then following a straight line in a westerly direction to 54° 46' north latitude and 62° 30' west longitude;

Then following a straight line in a southerly direction to the Naskaupi River at 54° 15' 31.2 north latitude and 62° 30' west longitude;

Then following the northern bank of the Naskaupi River in a easterly direction, the northern shoreline of Wuchusk Lake, the eastern shoreline of Seal Lake and the eastern shoreline of Naskaupi Lake in a generally easterly direction to the confluence of the Waputsan and Naskaupi Rivers;

Then following a straight line in an easterly direction to the point of commencement.
