Diagnostic and Therapeutic Drug Regulations (Amendment)
under the
Optometry Act, 2004

Under the authority of section 47 of the Optometry Act, 2004 the Newfoundland and Labrador Optometric Board, with the approval of the Minister of Health and Community Services, makes the following regulations.

Therapeutic drug certificate


NLR 95/05

        1. Section 3 of the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Drug Regulations is amended by adding immediately after subsection (3) the following:

             (4)  An optometrist who holds a therapeutic drug certificate may administer and prescribe the following pharmaceutical agents for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions of the ocular surface and adnexa where there is no corneal ulceration:

             (a)  topical ocular corticosteroids; and

             (b)  topical ocular anti-infective corticosteroid combinations.
