Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order,
Newfoundland and Labrador
(Amendment)
under the
Wild Life Regulations
and the
Wild Life Act

Under the authority of sections 25, 27, 88 and 114 of the Wild Life Regulations and the Wild Life Act, I make the following Order.

        1. Section 4 of the Fur Bearing Animals and Coyote Trapping and Shooting Order, Newfoundland and Labrador is repealed and the following substituted:

Neck snares

        4. Killing neck snares which are set on land for the purpose of taking fur bearing animals or coyote shall

             (a)  be equipped with a noose locking device which shall be set in a manner so that the noose, once closed, is prevented from expanding; and

             (b)  on the Island of Newfoundland, include a breakaway device to cause the snare loop to disassemble when static force of 340 kilograms or less is applied.

 

        2. Section 7 of the Order is repealed and the following substituted:

Live holding devices

        7. (1) A person who sets a live holding device on land for the taking of fur bearing animals or coyote shall check it daily.

             (2)  On the Island of Newfoundland, a person who sets a live restraining snare on land for the taking of fur bearing animals or coyote shall include a breakaway device to cause the snare loop to disassemble when static force of 340 kilograms or less is applied.

 

        3. (1) Subsection 8(1) of the Order is repealed and the following substituted:

Beaver harvest limits

        8. (1) On the Island of Newfoundland, the holder of a beaver trapline licence may harvest the number of beavers that is equal to the number of active beaver lodges located on the trapline area identified in the licence.

             (2)  Subsection 8(3) of the Order is amended by deleting the word "island" and substituting the word "Island".

 

        4. Schedule C of the Order is repealed and the following substituted:
