CHAPTER 17

AN ACT TO AMEND THE ANIMAL HEALTH AND PROTECTION ACT

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

as amended

        1. (1) Subsection 2(1) of the Animal Health and Protection Act is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (j) the following:

          (j.1)  "honey bee" means the insect Apis mellifera;

             (2)  Subsection 2(1) of the Act is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (w) the following:

         (w.1)  "Provincial Apiarist" means the employee designated under section 3.1;

 

        2. The Act is amended by adding immediately after section 3 the following:

Provincial apiarist

      3.1 The minister shall designate an employee of the department as Provincial Apiarist to perform the duties established in this Act and the regulations.

 

        3. Subsection 56(1) of the Act is repealed and the following substituted:

Application for licence

      56. (1) An applicant for a licence shall

             (a)  submit an application in the form required by the minister;

             (b)  provide the information required in the regulations; and

             (c)  pay the fee set by the minister.

 

        4. Subsection 68(2) of the Act is amended by deleting the word "and" at the end of paragraph (a), by deleting the period at the end of paragraph (b) and substituting a semi-colon, by adding the word "and" at the end of paragraph (b) and by adding immediately after paragraph (b) the following:

             (c)  the Provincial Apiarist.

Commencement

        5. This Act comes into force on a day to be proclaimed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council.
