Under the authority of section 114 of the Wild Life Regulations and the Wild Life Act , I make the following Order.

        1. This Order may be cited as the Hunting Prohibition Order, 1998.

        2. Hunting, by means of a firearm is prohibited in those parts of the Island of Newfoundland as described in Schedule A.

Schedule A

Carmanville Pond, Carmanville

All that area of the Island of Newfoundland bounded by a line beginning at the intersection of the Carmanville Highway and Route 330;

Then following Route 330 in a southeasterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 698,210 metres east and 5,471,910 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a southwesterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 697,640 metres east and 5,471,330 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a westerly direction to UTM co-ordinates 697,280 metres east and 5,471,370 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a northwesterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 696,790 metres east and 5,471,940 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a northerly direction to UTM co-ordinates 696,860 metres east and 5,472,950 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a northeasterly direction to the point of commencement.

Codroy Valley

All that area bounded by a line beginning at the western abutment of the bridge crossing Ryans Brook at ORegans;

Then following Route 406 in an easterly direction to its intersection with MacKennan Road;

Then following MacKennan Road and the western boundary of the Codroy Community Pasture in a southeasterly direction to the Grand Codroy River, and continuing in a southeasterly direction across the Grand Codroy River to Tom Doyles Road;

Then following Tom Doyles Road in a southwesterly direction to Route 406;

Then following Route 406 in a generally westerly direction to its intersection with Route 407;

Then following Route 407 in a generally westerly direction to the Gut of the Grand Codroy River;

Then crossing the Gut in a straight line and following the Sandbar Road to Millville and the intersection of Route 406;

Then following Route 406 in a generally easterly direction to the point of commencement.

Cormack

All that part of the Community of Cormack lying within 150 metres of either side of the Viking Trail, Route 430, beginning at a point 300 metres south of the Cormack Esso Service property and ending 300 metres north of George Crockers Farm and within 150 metres of either side of Veteran Drive, Route 422, from its intersection with the Viking Trail to its intersection with White River Road.

Clarenville

All that area bounded by a line commencing at the Random Island Causeway in Trinity Bay;

Then southwest 200° to a point approximately 800 metres offshore from Man Point;

Then south 164° to Bluff Point;

Then following the shoreline and including a distance of 100 metres inland from the highwater mark, to the point of commencement.

Foxtrap

That area of the Island of Newfoundland commencing at the northwest corner of Trout Pond and the Trans Canada Highway;

Then following the eastern shoreline of that pond approximately 500 metres;

Then following a straight line in a southeasterly direction to the inlet of Manuels River in Thomas Pond;

Then following the west bank of Manuels River to the first large steady upstream approximately 3,000 metres;

Then following a straight line to the southern extremity of Ocean Pond;

Then following the eastern shoreline of an adjacent pond and Hennesseys Pond to a brook leading to Jakes Pond;

Then following the eastern shoreline of Jakes Pond to its northern extremity;

Then following a straight line to the southern extremity of Little Pond;

Then following the western shoreline of that pond to the brook leading to the Trans Canada Highway;

Then following the Trans Canada Highway to the point of commencement.

Marshy Pond

That area known as Marshy Pond in or near the Community of Daniels Harbour and for a distance of 150 metres from the shoreline around Marshy Pond.

Massey Drive

All that area bounded by a line commencing at a point, that point being the centre line of Massey Drive where Massey Drive intersects with the power transmission line 411.5 metres, more or less, east of the Trans Canada Highway;

Then following the power transmission line in a generally northwesterly direction a distance of 343.8 metres, more or less, and being 182.9 metres, more or less, north of Massey Drive;

Then north 13° 00 east a distance of 557.8 metres, more or less, to the summit of an unnamed hill;

Then south 89° 00 east a distance of 858 metres, more or less, to the summit, 251.5 metres, of a second unnamed hill;

Then south 85° 45 east a distance of 947.9 metres, more or less, to a point, that point being on the southerly side of an unnamed stream;

Then south 25° 00 east a distance of 1,301.5 metres, more or less, to a point at the highwater mark on the northeasterly side of Tippings Pond;

Then following the sinuosities of the shoreline of Tippings Pond in a generally westerly and southerly direction to a point, that point being at the highwater mark on the southern shore of Tippings Pond 274.3 metres due north of the power transmission line;

Then south 40° 00 west a distance of 274.3 metres, more or less, to a point, that point being where the power transmission line turns a more westerly direction;

Then in a generally northwesterly direction following the centre line of the power transmission line a distance of 2,407.9 metres, more or less, to a point of commencement.

Middle Arm, Carmanville

All that area of the Island of Newfoundland located in Middle Arm, Hamilton South, Notre Dame Bay, bounded by a line commencing at a point UTM co-ordinates 5,474,400 metres north and 700,200 metres east;

Then following a straight line for a distance of 400 metres to UTM co-ordinates 5,474,400 metres north and 700,525 metres east;

Then following a straight line for a distance of 450 metres to UTM co-ordinates 5,474,200 metres north and 701,000 metres east;

Then following a straight line for a distance of 600 metres to UTM co-ordinates 547,360 metres north and 700,800 metres east;

Then following a straight line for a distance of 1,100 metres to UTM co-ordinates 5,472,550 metres north and 700,850 metres east;

Then following a straight line for a distance of 500 metres to UTM co-ordinates 5,472,550 metres north and 701,300 metres east;

Then following a straight line for a distance of 600 metres to UTM co-ordinates 5,472,300 metres north and 701,750 metres east;

Then following the northeast shoreline of Deer Lake to a point opposite the south corner of the island in the mouth of Upper Humber River;

Then following the southern shore of the island to the southwest corner;

Then in a straight line to the mouth of Second Brook;

Then following Second Brook to its crossing of Nicholsville Road;

Then following Nicholsville Road to its intersection with Route 430, the Viking Trail;

Then following Route 430, the Viking Trail, in a generally northwesterly direction to its intersection with the Reidville Road;

Then following the Reidville Road through the Community of Reidville, and continuing to First Cache Rapids on the Upper Humber River;

Then following a straight line to the point where the access road to the Deer Lake waste disposal enters Route 1;

Then following Route 1 in a generally southwesterly direction to the point of commencement.

St. Georges River

All that area of the Island of Newfoundland in the vicinity of Stephenville Crossing commencing at Vincents Head;

Then following a straight line to the western extremity of Mattis Point Pond;

Then following a woods path to Mattis Point Road in the community of Mattis Point;

Then following Mattis Point Road in a generally westerly direction to UTM co-ordinates 395,863 metres east, 5,371,022 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a generally southwesterly direction to a point on Route 490 at the intersection with Route 461 to a point directly opposite the northern boundary of Black Bank Provincial Park;

Then following to the coastline of St. Georges Bay;

Then following the coastline of St. Georges Bay in a generally northerly direction to Seal Cove Brook;

Then following this brook and a woods road to its intersection with the transmission line;

Then following the transmission line in a generally easterly direction to a point north of Vincents Head UTM co-ordinates 397,052 metres east, 5,374,958 metres north;

Then following a straight line to the point of commencement.

Saltwater Pond, Sweet Bay

All that area of the Island of Newfoundland commencing at UTM co-ordinates 302,883 metres east, 5,368,359 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a generally southeasterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 303,269 metres east, 5,367,808 metres north;

Then following the southeastern shoreline of Southwest Arm in a generally southwesterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 303,032 metres east, 5,367,424 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a generally southwesterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 302,715 metres east, 5,366,946 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a generally southwesterly direction to UTM co-ordinates 301,632 metres east, 5,366,001 metres north;

Then following a straight line in a southwesterly direction to Tides Brook at UTM co-ordinates 631,600 metres east and 5,222,000 metres north;

Then following the western bank of Tides Brook in a southwesterly direction to the mouth of Juniper Brook;

Then following the northern bank of Juniper Brook in a westerly direction to its intersection with Route 222;

Then following Route 222 in a northwesterly direction to the point of commencement.

Backside Pond Provincial Park (Former)

All that piece or parcel of land formerly being Backside Pond Provincial Park situate and being near Greens Harbour in the province, abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say:

Beginning at a point formed by the intersection of the northern limit of the Trinity South Highway, 30.5 metres wide, with the eastern limit of an abandoned Canadian National Railways right-of-way, 15.2 metres wide, that point having co-ordinates of north 29,904.3 metres and east 30,922.8 metres as referred to Crown Land Survey Marker No. 83220 having assumed co-ordinates of north 30,480 metres and east 30,480 metres;

Then by the eastern and northern limit of the Canadian National Railways right-of-way in a general northerly, westerly and northerly direction to a point in the shoreline of Backside Pond, that point having co-ordinates of north 30,912.7 metres and east 30,857 metres;

Then by Crown land north 73° 11 west 773.3 metres to a point in the shoreline of Trinity Bay at low water ordinary spring tides, that point having co-ordinates of north 31,314.1 metres and east 30,116.9 metres;

Then by the waters of Trinity Bay at low water ordinary spring tides to a point having co-ordinates of north 32,772.7 metres and east 32,144.8 metres;

Then by Crown land south 45° 30 east 1,462.4 metres to a point in the western limit of the Trinity South Highway, that point having co-ordinates of north 31,740.6 metres and east 33,195.1 metres;

Beginning at a point in the northerly shoreline of Broad Lake at low water mark, that point being distant 369.72 metres as measured on a bearing of north 75° 52 40" west from Control Monument No. 83043;

Then running by land in possession of Raymond Allen north 75° 52 40" west 60 metres;

Then running along the easterly limit of the parking lot south 42° 07 west 78 metres, more or less, to a point on the northerly shoreline of Broad Lake at low water mark;

Then running along the northerly shoreline of Broad Lake at low water mark in a northwesterly direction to the point of beginning;

And containing an area of 61 hectares, more or less;

Beothuck Provincial Park (Former)

All that area formerly being Beothuck Provincial Park situate and being at Big Rushy Pond in the province, abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say:

Beginning at the point of intersection of the southern bank of the river flowing out of Rushy Pond with the northern limit of the right-of-way, 30.5 metres wide, of Canadian National Railway;

Then running along the northern limit of the right-of-way south 52° 35 east 1,633.7 metres;

Then turning and running north 17° 10 east 216.4 metres, more or less, to the southern shore of Little Rushy Pond;

Then running across Little Rushy Pond north 11° 01 west 472.4 metres to a point on the northern shore of that pond;

Then turning and running north 35° west 342.9 metres, more or less, to the southern shore of Big Rushy Pond;

Then turning and running along the southern shore in a general southwesterly direction 1,798.3 metres, more or less, to the point of beginning and containing an area of 74.6 hectares.

All bearings are magnetic.

Catamaran Provincial Park (Former)

All that piece or parcel of land formerly being Catamaran Provincial Park situate and being at Joes Lake in the province, abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say:

Beginning at a point in the easterly limit of the Trans Canada Highway, 60.96 metres wide, extending between South Brook and Badger, that point being distant 2,250.362 metres as measured on a bearing of north 6° 14 35" west from Control Monument No. 76G2345;

Then running along the easterly limit of the Trans Canada Highway north 38° 16 40" west 118.490 metres, and then north 38° 03 20" west 479.547 metres, and then north 37° 40" west 130.382 metres, and then north 25° 51 20" west 132.857 metres, and then north 11° 03 20" west 157.584 metres, and then north 3° 42 20" east 124.601 metres, and then north 16° 23 20" east 120.443 metres, and then north 25° 14 east 126.282 metres, and then north 25° 42 40" east 248.479 metres, more or less;

Then following the sinuosities of the westerly shoreline of Joes Lake at low water mark in a general southeasterly direction to a point being distant 1,267.605 metres, more or less, as measured on a bearing of south 19° 40 east from the last mentioned point;

Then running by Crown land and by granted land north 88° 39 20" west 37.898 metres, more or less;

Then running along the easterly limit of the old highway, 20 metres wide, to a point being distant 105.136 metres as measured on a bearing of south 23° 43 20" west from the last mentioned point;

Then running by leased and granted Crown land south 5° 58 20" west 138.674 metres, more or less, to the point of beginning and containing an area of 41.569 hectares, more or less.

All bearings being referred to the meridian of 56° west longitude of the 3° Transverse Mercator Projection.

Cobbs Pond Park, Gander

Commencing at the intersection of the right-of-way of Gander Bay Road and the north boundary of N.L.H.C. or assigns, Carr Crescent Industrial Park;

Then by land of N.L.H.C. or assigns north 71-09 west 194.02 metres;

Then by land of N.L.H.C. or assigns north 74-02 west 1,107.79 metres;

Then by land of N.L.H.C. or assigns south 105.99 metres to a point 10 metres north of the shoreline of Little Cobbs Pond;

Then following 10 metres back along the sinuosities of the shoreline of Little Cobbs Pond in a southerly direction to a point 10 metres back from the shoreline of Little Cobbs Pond 174.11 metres south of the previous point;

Then by land of N.L.H.C. or assigns and Public Works south approximately 230 metres;

Then through Crown land and along the north boundary of Stanley Tulk north 82-06 west approximately 535 metres;

Then along the east boundary of C.B.C. and through Crown land north 03-40 west approximately 633 metres to the north boundary of Terra Transport;

Then along the north boundary of Terra Transport south 74-02 east approximately 325 metres;

Then along the southeast cut line of the power line approximately north 65 east approximately 1,570 metres;

Then along the south cut line of the power line approximately south 56 east approximately 845 metres;

Then along the northwest boundary of the Gander Bay Road right-of-way to the starting point.

Fitzgeralds Pond Park

All that piece or parcel of land formerly being a portion of the Fitzgeralds Pond Provincial Park situate and being on the southern side of Argentia Access Road, at Fitzgeralds Pond in the province, abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say:

Beginning at a point, said point being a brass plaque cemented in rock having coordinates of north 5,242,091.95 metres and east 248,365.95 metres the point being distant 2,100.9 metres as measured on a bearing of south 22° 4 17" east from Control Monument No. 82310;

Then running by Crown lands north 58° 30 13" east 1,834.34 metres;

Then north 58° 12 51" east 2,337.62 metres;

Then north 1° 17 40" west 1,131.63 metres, more or less;

Then running by the southern limit of the Argentia Access Road, 30 metres wide, extending between the Trans Canada Highway and Dunville to a point on the southerly limit having scaled coordinates of north 5,244,950 metres and east 249,308 metres;

Then running by land of Fitzgeralds Pond Provincial Park in a southeasterly direction along the easterly bank of a small brook to a point on the northerly shoreline of Fitzgeralds Pond having scaled coordinates of north 5,244,431 metres and east 249,616 metres;

Then running along the northerly shoreline of Fitzgeralds Pond at low water in a westerly direction to a point on the westerly shoreline of Fitzgeralds Pond;

Then running along the northerly bank of a brook in a westerly direction to a point on the northerly bank having scaled coordinates of north 5,242,405 metres and east 247,850 metres;

Then running by Crown land south 58° 39 45" east 603.7 metres, more or less, to the point of beginning;

And containing an area of 650 hectares, more or less;

All bearings being referred to the meridian of 53 ° west longitude of the Three Degree Transverse Mercator Projection.

Flatwater Pond Park

Great Southern Harbour Big Pond

All that area of the Island of Newfoundland located at the northern extremity of Great Southern Harbour, Placentia Bay, known as Big Pond, this area follows the highwater mark surrounding the area known as Big Pond and the southern extremity of the sand bar located at the northern extremity of Great Southern Harbour and then following the closest points across the entrance to Big Pond which separates Great Southern Harbour from Big Pond.

Gros Morne National Park

All that part of the Island of Newfoundland situated in the St. Barbe and Humber District described as follows on the Canada Department of Mines and Technical Surveys 1:50,000 scale topographic maps, all co-ordinates references are located according to the UTM 1,000 metre grid, zone 21;

Beginning at a point being the northwest angle of land granted by the Crown to Walter Pritchett and registered in Volume 92, Folio 40 in the Registry of Crown Grants, that point being distant 697.559 metres as measured on a bearing of north 76° 47 50" west from Control Monument No. 7602770;

All that piece or parcel of land formerly being Sops Arm Provincial Park and being an island containing an area of 9.7 hectares situate at the mouth of Main Brook, Sops Arm in the province and being part of land described in Crown Grant No. 19468 registered in Volume 98, Folio 13 in the Registry of Crown Grants, in the name of H. J. Crowe, excepting nevertheless out of that piece or parcel of land a right-of-way, 30.5 metres wide, for the highway leading to Sops Arm.

Square Pond Provincial Park (Formerly)

All that piece or parcel of land formerly being Square Pond Provincial Park situate and being in the province, abutted and bounded as follows, that is to say:

Beginning at the point of intersection of the southwesterly limit of the Trans Canada Highway, 30.5 metres wide, extending between Gambo and Gander and the southeasterly bank of Middle Brook flowing out of Square Pond;

Then running along the southwesterly limit of the highway south 39° 30 east 1,238.1 metres;

Then turning and running south 50° 35 west 544.1 metres to a point on the northeasterly shore of Square Pond;

Then running along that shore of the pond and along the southeasterly bank of Middle Brook in a general northwesterly direction for a distance of 2,518.3 metres, more or less, to the point of beginning and containing an area of 38.6 hectares.
