PROFILE:

Dwight was first elected as the MHA for the District of Humber Valley in March 2007 and re-elected to the House of Assembly in October 2011. He accepted the role of Interim Leader of the Liberal Party of Newfoundland and Labrador in January 2012 before securing the role permanently following a provincial leadership race in November 2013. Dwight has led the Liberal Party to by-election victories in the districts of St. George’s-Stephenville East, Virginia Waters, Carbonear – Harbour Grace, and Cartwright – L’Anse au Clair.

Born and raised in Deer Lake, as a young entrepreneur Dwight began a successful career starting with the franchising of Deer Lake Pharmacy and acquiring a community pharmacy in Springdale. He has been named Employer of the Year in both Deer Lake and Springdale, and the Town of Deer Lake honoured him with its Pride of the Town Award. Dwight has significant business interests throughout the province, including pharmacies, real estate developments and venture capital investments.

Dwight is deeply concerned with the availability of affordable accommodations for seniors and persons with disabilities. He is the owner of personal care homes for senior citizens and has helped to develop an active living retirement community for seniors in Deer Lake.

For over 20 years, Dwight has played a leadership role in the socio-economic development of the Humber Valley and has over 10,000 volunteer hours through a variety of organizations and initiatives. He has held numerous executive and board positions with the Western Memorial Hospital Foundation. He was also President of the Canadian Pharmacists Association from 2009 to 2010. Dwight is a former President of the Deer Lake Chamber of Commerce, and has served on the Board of Directors with the Deer Lake Airport Authority. He chaired the fundraising committee for the 2006 Newfoundland and Labrador Winter Games and was the West Coast Director for Senior Hockey in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Dwight enjoys salmon fishing, golfing, snowshoeing and playing recreational hockey while spending time with his family.
