PROFILE:
Eli Cross was elected to the House of Assembly in the 2011 General Election as the Member for the Bonavista North District.
The eldest of George and Joan Cross’ three children, Eli was born at Come-by-Chance, while his father taught at Chance Cove.
He grew up in Bonavista North at Badger’s Quay and Greenspond.
Eli graduated from Lester Pearson Memorial High at Wesleyville in 1974, and returned there to spend the majority of his 31-year education
career. Eli taught English and Industrial Arts, and held both Vice Principal and Principal administrative positions during his tenure.
Eli has also served on a variety of professional committees and leadership teams within the Nova Central School District, and has an extensive history of volunteer activity, including:
- Founding Trustee, Kittiwake Sick Childrens’ Fund;
- Host, Community Channel Telethons, New-Wes-Valley;
- Last Mayor, Wesleyville;
- First Mayor, New-Wes-Valley;
- Co-ordinator, Beothic Arena Minor and Recreational Hockey;
- Past President, Cow Head Lions Club;
- Charter President, Cabot (Wesleyville) Lions’ Club;
- Zone Chairman, 41S1 and 41S2 Districts, Lions International;
- President, Bonavista North P C Association;
- Member, New-Wes-Valley Recreation Commission;
- Member, New-Wes-Valley Crab Festival Committee.
Eli and his wife, Jocelyn, live in Pound Cove in New-Wes-Valley, Bonavista Bay, where they have raised two sons, Matthew and Jeremy.
