PROFILE:

Born and raised in St. John's, George Murphy graduated from Gonzaga Regional High School in 1980, later earning a certificate in Public Relations.

In 1997 George co-founded the Consumer Group for Fair Gas Prices. The group advocates for pro-consumer initiatives, including energy rebate programs and the removal of sales tax from heating costs.

George has always been an active community volunteer and organizer, helping out with numerous fundraising initiatives. He has been a bowling coach with the Vera Perlin Society, participated in the RNC Hallowe'en patrol, and has done communications and radio work for several groups, including the St. John's Triathlon. Through his community involvement, he has developed a deep concern for the issues of regular people.

George was elected to serve as the MHA for St. John's East in the general election of October 11, 2011.
