PROFILE:

Randy was born in Northwest River, Labrador on October 15, 1964. He graduated from JCEM School in Makkovik in 1982. At the age of 15 he was the cook on his uncle’s fishing vessel, a year later he was their captain. He has worked as a Weather Observer, Shrimp, Char and Salmon fisherman, Recreation Director and Youth Counselor/Coordinator.

After working in Nain as Environmental Observer with the Labrador Inuit Association, he moved to Lake Melville to continue his work with LIA as the co-coordinator of their Fisheries, Wildlife and Environmental Programs. Although he loved his work, his heart belonged on the “north coast”. In 2001, Randy and his now wife, purchased the Adlavik Inn (hotel) in Makkovik. They also started a successful tourism venture with the vision of showing people the Labrador he grew up in and loves.

Ruth Flowers, his mother, a lifelong advocate for women’s and justice issues in Labrador and his father, Bill Edmunds, was one of the original founders (together with Sam Andersen) of the Labrador Inuit Association, now the Nunatsiavut Government. So Randy has strong roots for working for his people.

He has spent time as a LIA Board Member, as well as sitting on committees such as the Makkovik Inuit Community Government, Voisey’s Bay Harvesting Compensation Board, Labrador Legal Services, Torngat Wildlife & Plants Co-Management Board, Combined Councils of Labrador, and Michelin Project Community Panel.

Randy brings a wealth of knowledge regarding the land, the sea, and all issues relating to people of Northern Labrador. An outspoken leader and fighter of the Torngat Mountains District.
