EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Bill would amend the Psychologists Act to reflect that one of the requirements for registration is preparation at the master's level, rather than the doctoral level. Transitional provisions reflecting a previous requirement would be deleted.

AN ACT TO AMEND THE PSYCHOLOGISTS ACT

        Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

1. Sections 9 and 10 of the Psychologists Act are repealed and the following substituted:

9. The registrar shall register the name of an applicant on the Register of Psychologists where the board is satisfied that the applicant

      (a) holds a master's degree in psychology that is from an educational institution approved by the board or the equivalent in content and training that is acceptable to the board;

      (b) has

        (i) where the applicant holds a master's degree, at least 2 years of professional experience, or

        (ii) where the applicant holds a doctoral degree, at least one year of professional experience

      in the field of psychology acceptable to the board that was obtained after the degrees or equivalent referred to were completed and was adequately and responsibly supervised to the satisfaction of the board;

      (c) has passed an examination required by the board; and

      (d) has paid the prescribed registration fee.
