EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Health Professions Act to

·         clarify who may be elected chairperson of the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals; and

·         allow the secretary-treasurer to be elected from all members of the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals.

Composition of council


Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

SNL2010 cH-1.02 as amended

        1. (1) Paragraph 8(1)(a) of the Health Professions Act is repealed and the following substituted:

             (a)  the elected chairperson of each college established under this Act and one other member elected from and by each college in accordance with the councils by-laws; and

             (2)  Subsection 8(3) of the Act is repealed and the following substituted:

             (3)  The council shall elect from among the elected members of the council a chairperson.

             (3)  Section 8 of the Act is amended by adding immediately after subsection (3) the following:

         (3.1)  The council shall elect from among the members of the council a secretary-treasurer.
