EXPLANATORY NOTES This Bill would amend the Animal Health and Protection Act to · add a definition of "honey bee"; · require the designation of an employee of the department as the Provincial Apiarist; · require an applicant for a licence to provide information required by the regulations; and · designate the Provincial Apiarist as an inspector for the purpose of the Act. S.68 Amdt. 5. Commencement Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows: SNL2010 cA-9.1 1. (1) Subsection 2(1) of the Animal Health and Protection Act is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (j) the following: (j.1) "honey bee" means the insect Apis mellifera; (2) Subsection 2(1) of the Act is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (w) the following: (w.1) "Provincial Apiarist" means the employee designated under section 3.1; 2. The Act is amended by adding immediately after section 3 the following: Provincial apiarist 3. Subsection 56(1) of the Act is repealed and the following substituted: Application for licence 56. (1) An applicant for a licence shall (a) submit an application in the form required by the minister; (b) provide the information required in the regulations; and (c) pay the fee set by the minister. 4. Subsection 68(2) of the Act is amended by deleting the word "and" at the end of paragraph (a), by deleting the period at the end of paragraph (b) and substituting a semi-colon, by adding the word "and" at the end of paragraph (b) and by adding immediately after paragraph (b) the following: (c) the Provincial Apiarist. Commencement 5. This Act comes into force on a day to be proclaimed by the Lieutenant-Governor in Council. ©Queen's Printer |
