EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act, 2022 to provide Workplace NL with the authority to pay for bereavement counselling services for dependents of a worker who, as a result of an injury, dies on or after January 1, 2022.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

        1. Section 75 of the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Act, 2022 is amended by adding immediately after subsection (1) the following:

         (1.1)  Where, as a result of an injury, a worker dies on or after January 1, 2022, the commission may, in accordance with the regulations, pay for bereavement counselling for the worker's surviving dependent spouse or cohabiting partner and children.

 

        2. Subsection 150(1) of the Act is amended by adding immediately after paragraph (k) the following:

         (k.1)  respecting the payment of bereavement counselling for a worker's surviving dependent spouse or cohabiting partner and children;
