         1. − THE HONOURABLE THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE LEADER – To Move:

 

“BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Assembly urge the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to establish an all-party Select Committee on Democratic Reform”.

         2. − THE HONOURABLE THE GOVERNMENT HOUSE LEADER – To Move:

 

         “BE IT RESOLVED that the Member for the District of Harbour Grace-Port de Grave be appointed Deputy Chair of Committees for the remainder of the Forty-Eighth General Assembly”.

             

         3. – MR. BRIAN WARR (Baie Verte – Green Bay) – To Move:

 

“WHEREAS fourteen mineral commodities are produced or mined in the Province including iron, nickel, copper, cobalt and gold;

 

AND WHEREAS the mining industry in 2018 is expected to employ 4,800 people (excluding construction) throughout Newfoundland and Labrador with $48 million in exploration expenditures and $3 billion in mineral shipments are forecasted;

 

AND WHEREAS the growth and diversification of the mining industry will provide meaningful contribution to a more diverse workforce by doubling the current number of women employed and by providing meaningful opportunities to rural areas of our Province;

 

AND WHEREAS by 2030 the Provincial Government envisions five new mines, sustainable direct employment of more than 6,200 people in operations, and doubling our annual exploration expenditures to $100 million;

 

AND WHEREAS to be successful the Government will focus on, being competitive, with clear and efficient regulatory processes; advancing targeted public geoscience, marketing and education; promoting effective Indigenous and community engagement; and pursuing innovation and emerging technologies;

 

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this Honourable House supports the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in its plan for growth in the mining industry of our Province.”
